National Night Out 2026 in Evesham Township: 100 Faces and What We Learned

More than 100 faces, one very popular Spider-Man, and a working lesson in how South Jersey businesses actually earn trust.

More than 100 faces. One very popular fox. And a Spider-Man request roughly every fourth kid.

Evesham Township’s National Night Out landed on Tuesday, August 4 this year, and our tent sat in the middle of it with a folding chair, a table of paints, and a line that never really went away. I painted until the fireworks started. My hand hurt for two days. It was one of the best nights of the summer.

People sometimes ask why a marketing and revenue operations agency spends a Tuesday night painting whiskers on nine-year-olds instead of, say, running ads. The honest answer is that the two things are more related than they look, and the night made the case better than any deck I could build.

What the night actually looked like

If you have never been, Evesham’s National Night Out is genuinely enormous. Thousands of people. Inflatables lined up along the field. Vendor tents packed end to end across the lot. A hot air balloon glowing at the edge of it. Fireworks to close, sponsored by A Suite for Harry’s Heroes, and a United States Marine Corps helicopter parked on site that had a crowd around it all evening. The Evesham Township Police Department hosts it, and they run it well.

Thousands filled the grounds for Evesham Township’s National Night Out on August 4, 2026.

Our setup was simple on purpose. A tent, a table, a chair, and paint. No lead capture form. No giveaway funnel. No QR code hunt. Just a sign that said the face painting was free and a chair that was almost never empty.

The fox was the sleeper hit of the night. Spider-Man won on volume by a wide margin, the way Spider-Man always does, but the foxes came out better than I expected and a few kids came back with friends specifically to request one. Somewhere in Marlton there are parents who spent Wednesday morning scrubbing orange off a very reluctant child, and I apologize to exactly none of you.

Why we do this

Here is the part that connects to the day job.

Almost every local business we talk to is facing the same math right now. Paid clicks cost more every year. Organic traffic is getting harder to hold as AI answers absorb more of it. So the instinct is to bid higher for the same clicks, and the ceiling on that strategy keeps getting lower.

Meanwhile there is a channel nobody is bidding on, and it sits in a township parking lot on the first Tuesday of August.

South Jersey runs on referrals. It always has. People here choose a plumber, a dentist, a contractor, or an agency the way they always have: they ask someone they trust, they check reviews, and they go with the name they recognize. That is not sentiment, it is a buying process, and being present in the community is how a business enters it. We build local SEO programs for clients who need to be findable at the exact moment someone searches. Community presence is the other half of the same job: being familiar before anyone searches at all.

The families in that line know our name now. There was no auction involved.

The businesses standing next to us

One of my favorite things about the night is looking at who shows up. More than 20 businesses, civic organizations, and public safety groups supported or worked the 2026 event. Cherry Valley Tractor Sales. Sprouts Farmers Market. Remington and Vernick Engineers. Adjust Your Sleep Mattress Boutique. DiMeglio Septic. Stephen’s Exterminating. New Century Screen Printing and Embroidery. The Evesham Township Police Foundation, the Education Foundation, the school district, the fire department, FOP Lodge 143.

Septic companies and screen printers and financial planners and a mattress boutique, all putting real money and real hours into a night for the community. That is what a healthy local economy looks like from the inside, and you cannot see it from a dashboard.

If you run a business in Evesham, Marlton, Cherry Hill, or anywhere in Burlington or Camden County and you have been wondering whether local involvement is worth the time, stand in that lot next August. The question answers itself.

Five things I would tell any local business about doing this

We have now done enough of these to have opinions. Here is what actually separates a business that gets something out of a community event from one that just paid for a tent.

Commit early. National Night Out is always the first Tuesday of August, which puts 2027 on Tuesday, August 3. Township planning starts in the spring. Sign up early and your name travels with the event’s own promotion instead of arriving alongside it.

Bring something to do, not something to read. A hands-on activity creates hundreds of unhurried conversations. A table of brochures creates people walking a little faster past your table. The activity is the marketing.

Send the owners. People notice who actually shows up. Four hours in a chair painting faces says something about a business that a sponsorship line in a program never will.

Come back next year. One appearance is a nice photo. Five years running is a reputation, and reputation is what people verify before they call anybody.

Measure it like you measure everything else. Capture how people found you at intake. Watch your branded search volume in the weeks after. Track where inbound leads actually originate. Businesses that instrument community investment stop arguing about whether it works and start deciding how much of it to fund. That is the same discipline we bring to every digital marketing program we run.

This is not a one-night thing for us

National Night Out opened a busy stretch. Four days later we co-hosted the American Muscle Car Show with Floor Coverings International Cherry Hill. On August 12 I am speaking at D.R.I.V.E. HER Forward. I serve as Vice President of BNI Cherry Hill East, which meets weekly and has introduced us to more good local businesses than any campaign ever has.

We are headquartered in Cherry Hill and most of our client work is national, which makes the local part a choice rather than a default. It is a choice we keep making, because a Cherry Hill address means nothing if nobody in Cherry Hill has ever met you.

The same principle shows up in the client work. When we help a home services company grow, the wins come from the unglamorous local fundamentals: showing up in the map pack, earning reviews, and answering the phone faster than the competition. One of our clients grew from a single truck to five on exactly that sequence. Presence, then speed, then everything else.

Thank you, Evesham

To the Evesham Township Police Department and everyone who organizes this: thank you. It is a genuinely hard event to run and you make it look easy.

To every parent who let their kid sit in our chair, and to the families who waited patiently while I finished somebody else’s tiger: thank you. That was the whole point.

See you on August 3, 2027. Bring the kids. I will bring more orange.
